Reflections

I have truly enjoyed taking this class. It has been an eye opener for me. The research and assignments have been rewarding. Its funny how you may work with the elderly daily but never realize how important they are to the work place. Just thinking about becoming a senior and how my performance may affect my job. Were will i be working at age 65? Very interesting!

I have evaluated my leadership ability and made changes because my future goal is to become a supervisor/director in the health care field. My leadership style, based on the quizzes, was between participative and authoritarian. Becoming a manager is not as easy as it appears. You have to be determined and focused on doing your job, managing your staff, and generating positive and lucrative results. Hard work but worth it.

I was amazed by setting up a blog website. I had never heard of a blog before. Now i enjoy blogging, go figure. This whole class experience has made me aware of other areas i probably would have never thought of.

Thanks Dr. R

Leadership Style

Participative Leadership

The Participative Leadership is a style that best describes my leadership. The definition of Participate Leadership as defined by Kurt Lewin is most effective leadership style that offers guidance to group members which make them feel more motivated and creative. Other definitions explain the style as being a mutual-benefit which allows them part of a team and the leader to make better decisions. No one has all the answers but this a way to get on the right track to a successful outcome.

While managing at Express Check Advance in Greenville, MS, I valued my employee’s opinions and suggestions to increase our client base. This motivated them to do better in the work place and expand the range of possibilities. In every job, leadership is required because each employee can’t make the best decision for the company to maintain profit. Without any leadership the company would not prosper and grow.

The following characteristics exhibit my style; emotional stability, dominance, enthusiasm, self-assurance, maturity, and consideration. I am able to tolerate stressful situations because my current employment demonstrates that daily. I work as a bad debt clerk at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital. I review affidavits and pursue legal actions daily on patient’s unpaid medical bills. Yes, emotional stability is a must. My heart goes out to the patients but ultimately I have to do my job. Maintaining enthusiasm, maturity and self assurance allow a positive environment which employees can respect and work accordingly. Never a dull moment! Finally, rewarding and recognizing a coworker shows you appreciate their dedication to getting the job done.

The Matrix

The Matrix

The movie selection chosen was “The Matrix” staring Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne. The character Morpheus is persuasive, has good communication with the group and participative leadership. The action driven movie is based on a computer generated dream world, in which the natural world as we see it does not exist. Morpheus belief and motivation allowed his followers to continue the journey to survival.

The characters are chosen to join an elite group that plans to change the world and live within the matrix. Few believe but Morpheus is in charge of selecting a person to ultimately lead this group into another life. He gives options to his followers allowing them to understand and participate in their destiny. That is one reason he gave the the option of taking the blue pill or the red bill. Either you trust me or you dont. In the beginning he is aware of whats in their minds and he uses that to get them focused.

Morpheus participative leadership guided his followers especially Neal to develop his purpose. His qualities include self-assurance, dominance and tough-mindedness. A scene from the movie where Morpheus teaches Neil how to let go and accept who he is displays his determination for the best. During the fight Neal could never hit Morpheus until he started to belive. You have to be sure of yourself when making decisions because the wrong answer or move could result in a negative outcome. In this case Morpheus was not giving up on his mission.

The team believed in Morpheus and was very loyal to him. He began the Matrix and nothing and no one was going to take his vision away from him. Through all the signs he never gave up on Neil being "the one" as he refered to him as. Others had mixed feeling about Morpheus's decision about Neil but they always trusted his word. However one person traded sides but the outcome was not good for him. Morpheus even sacrificed his life to save his followers. But because he trained the best they came back to save his life.

In conclusion this movie was based on computer programs leading the way. I enjoyed watching the movie and looking beyond the action to find that without a leader nothing could exist. In society today with all the updates in technology can you determine what is actually real?
